Prior to installing new steel beams, preperation is vital. On the external wall bricks are removed in readiness for steel props to be installed. Internally acrow props are used to take the weight above, while internal blockwork is removed. In this scenario with the opening being quite wide, the structural engineer specified that part of the internal wall needed to be rebuilt with 7kn concrete blocks (as shown below) to ensure sufficient weight bearing capacity for the new steel beam.
